Given each map scale, calculate the actual distance using a proportion.  Click on the globe to see if you are correct.

 

1.  Joy is taking a trip and finds out that on a map the distance between the two cities is 4⅝ inches.  Find the actual distance of her trip if 1 inch equals 720 miles.

 

2.  The distance on a map between Madrid, Spain and Paris, France is 4 inches.  What is the actual distance for a round trip if 1 inch equals 158 miles?

 

3.  The distance on a map between San Diego and Los Angeles is ⅞ inch.  What is the actual distance between the two cities if 1 inch equals 126 miles?
