Using the rules we learned from our lessons 
Ordering Decimal Numbers, 
Scientific Notation for Large Numbers and 
Scientific Notation for Small Numbers we can order numbers given to us in scientific notation.

Now let's use those rules and do some ordering.

Example 1:  Put in order from least to greatest:

Solution:

First we want to write these numbers in standard form.

We can now use our numbers in standard form to order.  

    The correct order would be:

8, 000         8, 910         81, 900         89, 000

We will now write our list in the original form (scientific notation).

                                     

Example 2:  Put in order greatest to least:

Solution:

Again we want to put our numbers in standard form.

Scientific Notation	Standard Form
	0.0107
	0.000017
	0.00107
	0.017

We can now use our numbers in standard form to order.  

    The correct order would be:

0.017        0.0107        0.00107        0.000017

We will now write our list in the original form (scientific notation).

By using our rules for ordering decimal numbers and whole numbers, combined with our rules for scientific notation, we can now order numbers in scientific notation form!
