Surface Area of a Rectangular Prism - Lesson Topic Index | Grade 7 Math | Intermediate Test Prep | StudyZone
To find the surface area of a rectangular prism follow this formula:
SA = 2lw+2lh+2wh
Remember: "l" is length, "w" is width and "h" is height
Let's put it to use... (You may use a calculator.)
The length of this rectangular prism is 16 mm, the width is 14 mm and the height is 29 mm.
We'll use the formula SA = 2lw+2lh+2wh to find the surface area.
SA = 2lw+2lh+2wh SA = 2(16)(14)+2(16)(29)+2(14)(29) SA = 448+928+812 SA=2188 mm²
Let's look at another one!
Again, we'll use the formula
SA = 2lw+2lh+2wh SA = 2(7.1)(2.6)+ 2(7.1)(4.4)+ 2(2.6)(4.4) SA = 36.92+62.48+ 22.88 SA = 122.28 ft²
