To find the surface area of a right triangular prism we must use this formula:

SA = wh + lw + lh + ls

The variables in this formula stand for:

w = width
h = height
l = length
s = side

 

Let's put this formula to use.

Find the surface area of this right triangular prism.  Dimensions are in feet.

SA = wh + lw + lh + ls

SA = 5(6)+9(5)+9(6)+9(7)

SA = 30+45+54+63

SA = 192 ft

Here's another one.

 

Find the surface area of this right triangular prism.  Dimensions are in inches.

SA = wh + lw + lh + ls

SA = 6.9(7.5)+12.3(6.9)
+12.3(7.5)+12.3(9.7)

SA = 51.75+84.87+
92.25+119.31

SA = 348.15 sq in
