The Power of Zero - Lesson
Topic Index | Grade 7 Math | Intermediate Test Prep | StudyZone

The following question is often asked:
Why is anything to the zero power 1?

Let's look at the powers of 6:

                                        .
                                        .
                                        .

If we were to decrease in value it makes sense that each time we would divide our answer by 6 each time.  (Remember to increase in value we multiplied by 6 each time.)

This rule holds true for any base
that is a nonzero number.

Remember:  Any nonzero number to the zero power will be 1.

Let's Practice!
