The Exponent (or power)
is the number that tells how many times
the Base Number will be
multiplied by itself

Check This Out:
74 is said:
"Seven to the fourth power."
(7 is the Base Number  and  4 is the exponent or power)

and means:
7 x 7 x 7 x 7
(7x7= 49 x7= 343 x7=)  2,401

** 74 does  NOT  mean 7 x 4 **

Do You Get It ?

53 is said to be in Exponential form
and is said: "Five to the third power."

It can be written in
Expanded form like:
5 x 5 x 5

And when turned into an answer
is said to be
Standard form like:

125

How About This ?

Exponential form:    25

Expanded form:       2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2

Standard form:         32

(because 2x2= 4 x2= 8x2= 16x2= 32)

Upon further review:

It really isn't 'that' scary

When working with 'Exponents'
simply multiply the Base Number by itself
the number of times the exponent is
