Percents can be written as
fractions or decimals.

Percents, Fractions, and Decimals
all describe portions of a whole

In the pictures below
37
of the 100 squares are shaded.

We would say that  37%  are shaded as a PERCENT
or
37/100  are shaded as a FRACTION
or
0.37  (thirty-seven hundredths) are shaded as a DECIMAL

Example 1:

Write 35 %
as a
Fraction

35%  =  35/100
but don't forget to reduce your fraction
to lowest terms!

35/100  reduces to 7/20

35%  =   7/20

Example 2:

Write 82 %
as a
Decimal

82%  =   0.82
(said "eighty-two hundredths")

Example 3:

If you are asked to convert a

Fraction to a Percent  ,
you can by setting up a proportion.

part / whole   =   percent / 100

If Jan had 3/4 of his yard work finished, what would the percentage of completed be?

                     3/4  =  x/100
                 300 =  4x
           300 ÷ 4 = x
                   75 = x

Jan would have  75% of his
yard work completed.

Upon further review:

Percents, Fractions, and Decimals
ALL
describe portions of a whole.
