A Ratio is the comparing of two quantities.

Ratios can be written
3 different ways

A ratio of
3 boys to 5 girls
can look like:

3 to 5

3 : 5

Example 1:

If there were 7 hats and 3 shoes

The ratio would be---

7 to 3

it could also look like
7 : 3 or

Example 2:

If there were 9 scarves and 2 gloves

The ratio would be---

9 : 2

it could also look like
9 to 2 or

Example 3:

If 6 out of 10 kids like spaghetti

The ratio would be---

it could also look like
6 to 10 or 6 : 10

BUT:
like fractions,
ratios can be
reduced !

Upon further review:

compare 2 different amounts.

in the order as they are listed
Ex:
