Let's see how well you can represent the following word problems!  

  1. After reading the problem, decide which type of representation would help you solve the problem.

Mrs. John's class is painting murals, and today they finished 6.  They need to do 14 total. Half of the unfinished murals are in the west wing of the school.  One fourth of the unfinished murals are in the east wing.   The rest are outside.  How many murals are outside?

Red, red, green, green, green, blue, blue, red, red, green, green, green, blue, blue....  What are the next six  colors??
Mrs. Smith needs to put four students (Ali, Betsy, Casey, and Darcy)  into pairs. How many different pairs can she make? (Order does not matter.)

For Jim's first birthday, his grandma gave him $2.50.  For his second birthday, she gave him $5.00.  For his third birthday, she gave him $10.00, and for his fourth birthday, she gave him $20.00.  This year, he got $80.00. How old is he now?
