 After getting an answer,
you may want to perform a mathematical check
to verify your answer.

Remember:
Addition/Subtraction and
Multiplication/Division
are opposite operations to one another.
So checking one operation with its opposite
is a good way to help verify your answer.

Example A:

Problem:                         Check:

   56
-42
  14

When adding or subtracting
Simply do the 'opposite' operation in reverse.

To check 56-42=14
Add in Reverse.

  14
+42
  56

Example B:

Problem:                         Check:

   24 ÷ 6 = 4

When multiplying or dividing
Simply do the 'opposite' operation in reverse.

To check 24÷6=4
Multiply in Reverse.

  4 x 6 = 24

Sometimes a 'check' will require using both types of operations.

Example C:

Problem:                         Check:

   36 ÷ 5 = 7 r1

In this type of problem
we first check our division
by Multiplying in reverse.

Then we Add the remainder to that total
to get
36.

To check 36÷5=7r1
Multiply in Reverse.
  7 x 5 = 35
then add the remainder (r)
35 + 1 = 36

Remember:

Checking one operation with its opposite
is a good way of verifying your answer.
