Fractions, percents, and decimals are all equivalent numbers.

They can all represent the same number, just written a different way.

Fraction Decimal Percent

0.75

75%

If given a fraction, in order to write it as a decimal, we divide it out.

The numerator goes inside the division box.

Then to change it to a percent we just move the decimal point two places to the right.

Find the decimal and percent equivalents:

Fraction Decimal Percent

(Divide 2 by 5.)

0.4

Move the decimal point two places to the right.

40%

If given a decimal, how we would read it is how we would write the fraction.

Find the fraction and percent equivalents:

Fraction Decimal Percent

We would read this as 95 hundredths.  We would write the fraction the same way then reduce.

0.95

Move the decimal point two places to the right.

95%

If given the percent, to write it as a decimal, move the decimal two places to the left.  Then do the same as above to write the number as a fraction.

Find the fraction and decimal equivalents:

Fraction Decimal Percent

We would read this as twelve thousandths, then reduce.

Move the decimal two places to the left.

0.012

1.2%
