Some word problems are solved using multiplication and division of fractions.  These can be common fractions or mixed numbers.  This page will use multiplication problems.  A link at the bottom of this page will take you to a lesson with division problems!

Let's review fractions! common fraction- contains a numerator and denominator and is less than one whole mixed number-contains a whole number and a common fraction and is greater than one whole

Do you need to review multiplication rules for common fractions?  If yes, click here! Click here for multiplication rules! Multiply numerator by numerator and denominator by denominator

Let's multiply some common fractions together!
Remember to put all answers in lowest terms!

 5  x  3 = 8      4 5 x 3 = 15 8 x 4 = 32 2  x 6 = 3     5 2 x 6 = 12 ÷3 = 4 3 x 5 = 15 ÷3 = 5

Now let's examine some word problems which might use fractions.
