To put a set of fractions in order:

We must find the lowest common denominator for the
    given fractions

Find equivalent fractions using the common denominator

Once we have done this we can put the fractions
in order by using the numerator.

Example 1:

Question

Solution

Put in order from least
to greatest:

The denominators in this set are 9, 4, 6, and 12.  The lowest common denominator is 36.

We must now find equivalent fractions using the denominator of 36.

We can now put the fractions in order. (Remember to read carefully - least to greatest.)

Example 2:

Question

Solution

Put in order from greatest
to least:

The lowest common denominator for 3, 15, 9, and 5 is 45.

We now need to find equivalent fractions.

Now we can put the fractions in order (greatest to least).

Remember, to put fractions in order:

We first need the lowest common denominator for the set
     of fractions

We then look at the numerator to put the fractions in order

Be sure to read carefully (least to greatest or greatest to least).
