The millimeter (mm), centimeter (cm), decimeter (dm), meter (m), and kilometer (km) are metric units of length. These units are used when measuring length, height, width, depth, or distance.

Key Facts
1 m = 1000mm
1 m = 100 cm
1 m = 10 dm
1 km = 1000 m

Millimeter is the smallest metric unit of length.

Kilometer is the largest metric unit of length.

Millimeter is one thousandth of a meter.


The width of a piece of paper

Centimeter (cm) is one hundredth of a meter.

Decimeter (dm) is one tenth of a meter.

The height of a big apple.

Meter (m) is a unit of measure, a little more than a yard long.

A bat is about 1 m long.
Kilometer (km) is 1,000 meters.

Nine football fields are about 1 km long.
