In this lesson we will learn how
to determine the y-intercept of a line
if you have been given the graph of the line.
The y-intercept of a line is the
y-coordinate
of the point at which the line intersects the
y-axis.
Look at the diagram below.....
As you can see, the line drawn on the
coordinate plane clearly intersects the y-axis
at the point (0,1).
Since the y-coordinate of that point is "1"
the y-intercept of the line is "1".
   
Pretty easy
right?
Just to be sure...let's look at one more example:

Do you see where the
line intersects the y-axis?
That's right! At the point (0,-4)
That means that the y-intercept is "-4"

Remember, if you
have been given the graph of a line,
the
y-intercept
is the
y-coordinate
of the point
at which the line crosses the y-axis...
It's that easy!
