Hmmm... what could the letters KWL mean?

A KWL chart will help you...
think
and learn
when you are reading.

K=Know (What do I know?)

In this column you write what you already know about the topic.
This will start you thinking about your topic.
W=Want (I want to learn?)

In this column you write what you want to learn about the topic.
This will give you something to look for when you read.

L=Learn (What did I learn?)
In this column you write what you learned after reading.
Then you check your
want column and see if you found all your answers.

Here is how to set up a KWL chart:

1. Cats come in many different colors. 1. How big do cats get?
 
1. Cats can get as big as 12 - 20 inches long.

3. Cats are pets to many people.
 
3. Where was the first cat from?
 
3. Cats are believed to come from the African Wildcat.
