When beginning a new
writing unit with your class read this book aloud. Discuss
with your students that adjectives add "color" to your writing and
often are forgotten. As a class make a list of the many
different adjectives from the story and keep it posted in the room
to remind students. |

|
Begin with a review of
the parts of speech and what makes up a sentence. Read the
book aloud to your class having them listen for all the adjectives.
At the completion of the story list all the adjectives on chart
paper.
After the list is compiled for the class to see play mystery object.
Give each group of students a bag with an object inside. They
may NOT look at the object inside the bag. Have them place
their hand inside the bag and feel, shake the bag etc. They
are to then write down as many adjectives describing the object.
After everyone in the group has had a chance to feel the object and
compile a list they share their adjectives and agree on what the
object is. In conclusion the teacher will ask a student from
the group what the object is and then display the object to the
class. |
