What does that word mean?

Here are a few tips you can use when reading a story and you
come to a word you don't know. 

Use the picture clues to
help you. 

Look at the picture clues on the page you are reading.  Pictures will give you  
 ideas of what is happening in the story and can help you with a difficult word.

Break apart the word.

Try to look for smaller parts of a word you do know to help you with
 the unknown word.
 

Be sure to read the rest of the sentence carefully.

Sometimes you will be able to figure out the meaning of the word from other
 words in the sentence. 
When you think you know it ask yourself:  Does it make sense, Does it sound 
 right?
