Remember - Good writer's use figurative language to help readers get a mental picture of what they are describing.

 

One example of figurative language is a simile.

Complete each simile.  Think of your own word.  Then, check your work.  Remember, these are just examples of correct answers. 

1. The bed was as hard as a .

2. Papa ran like .

3. The puppy was as soft as .

4. An alligator swam toward us like a .

5. The table was as sharp as  .

 

 

Write down the meaning of each simile.  Then, check your work.

6.  The bed was as hard as nails.            

7.  Jessica swam like a fish.                    

8.  The mud was like glue.                      

9.  The house was as black as the night. 

10.  Matt's skin was as cold as ice.
