End Punctuation

We use punctuation marks at the end of all sentences.  Read over the table below to review the rules for end punctuation.

When It Is Used:

Period

 

 

* Use a period at the end of a statement.  A statement is a sentence that informs.

Example:  Joseph decided to walk to the store.

* Use a period at the end of an imperative.  An imperative is a sentence that is a command.

Example:  Take the dog for a walk.

 

 

?

Question mark

 

 

* Use a question mark at the end of a direct question.  A question asks something.

 

Example:  Would you like to go to the mall?

 

 

!

Exclamation Point

 

 

* Use an exclamation mark to express strong feeling. 

 

Examples:  Something is biting my
                   leg!
                Help me!

Remember:

All sentences end with a punctuation mark.
