Ideas for Use in the Classroom:

  • The following graphic is a useful tool to teach students how to sequence their own stories.  Introduce additional elements such as secondary settings, supporting characters, multiple problems, and climax.

  • After reading a story or book, write important story events on index cards and have the students place them in the correct order. 

  • Use a story map to help students sequence story events. Examples of story maps can be found below.
