Noun + Verb = Complete Sentence

 

 

Did you know that a complete sentence
should contain a noun and a verb?

 

A noun is a word that names a person, place, or thing. There are two kinds of nouns. A common noun names any person, place or thing. A proper noun names a specific person, place, or thing.

Common Nouns Proper Nouns
boy David
school West Street School
game Bingo
 
A verb is an action word. A verb is a word that shows what the noun is doing.

Here are a few verbs...

fly walk
is throw
drove came

 

You know that the formula is:
Noun + Verb = Complete Sentence

 

  To find the noun in a
 sentence, think person,
       place, or thing!

   To find the verb in a
  sentence, ask yourself,
   
"What is the noun doing?"

 

 

Example #1

 

The girl rode away.
To find the noun think person!
This sentence is about the girl.
Girl is the noun in this sentence!
What is the girl doing?
The girl rode.
Rode is the verb in this sentence!
Noun + Verb = Complete Sentence

 

 

Example #2

 

My boat puttered along!
 
To find the noun think thing!
This sentence is about my boat.
Boat is the noun in this sentence!
What is the boat doing?
The boat puttered.
Puttered is the verb in this sentence!
Noun + Verb = Complete Sentence

 

 

Example #3

 

A park is a peaceful.
To find the noun think place!
This sentence is about a park.
Park is the noun in this sentence!
What is the park doing?
The park is.
Is is the verb in this sentence!
Noun + Verb = Complete Sentence
