A verb is a word that shows action!!!

Imagine yourself on the playground during playtime.
You run.
Maybe you climb.
I bet you even jump!

The words in orange tell things that you do.
Some things that you do are easy to see.
These words are called verbs
A verb tells what a person or thing does.
A verb is an action word.

Finding the verb in a sentence is as easy as 1-2-3!
Just follow these simple steps.

Step 1:

Find the noun (person, place or thing) in the sentence.
   

Step 2:

Ask yourself, "What is the noun doing?"
   

Step 3:

When you find what the noun is doing, you have found the verb!

Step 1:

What is the noun?
The noun is man.
 

Step 2:

What is the man doing?
The man reads.
 

Step 3:

Reads is the verb in this sentence!

Sometimes finding the verb is a little tricky.
Some verbs are harder to pick out of a sentence.
Actions such as run, climb, and jump are easy to see.
Other verbs show actions that you can't see.
Think, feel, and know are actions that are hard to see.

Step 1:

What is the noun?
The noun is Pat.
 

Step 2:

What is Pat doing?
Pat likes music.
 

Step 3:

Likes is the verb in this sentence. Likes is a verb that is hard to see.
