What's a Cinquain Poem?

It is a simple form of poetry that follows a specific pattern. The words you choose and the shape they make on the paper are an important part of the writing.

Spider
Creepy, Scary
Crawling, Spinning, Spying
Hiding in the basement
Waiting

Did you notice the diamond shape of the poem?
A cinquain poem is always written this way!

Here's the pattern!

Line1: one word to name the subject spiders
Line 2: two words to describe it creepy, scary
Line 3: three action words about it crawling, spinning, spying
Line 4: a four word phrase describing the subject (a thought, not a complete sentence) hiding in the basement
Line 5: one word that means the same thing as the first word, or a word that sums it all up.

waiting
