Did You Know?

When you are writing a report or answering a
question, it is important to always stay
ON TOPIC.
Only include information that answers the
question. 
Leave out IRRELEVANT INFORMATION.

Relevant Information
This is information that tells more about the story.

  

Irrelevant Information
This is information that has NOTHING to do with the story.

 

When we read, it is important for us to understand "what information is important to the story"

Carefully read each paragraph below and decide what information is IRRELEVANT or NOT important.

It is important to take care of your dog. Be sure to leave out plenty of food and water. Make sure it gets plenty of exercise everyday. It is important to brush or groom your dog regularly. All dogs are cute. Be sure to provide a sleeping area or dog house for him to rest.

Once when a Lion was asleep, a little Mouse began running up and down upon him. Some lions weigh over 500 pounds. This soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.

Most sharks have at least four rows of teeth. They don't chew—they use their powerful teeth to bite and tear their food. Shark babies are called pups. As the first row of teeth in a shark gets worn out, the other rows of teeth move forward. New teeth are always forming.
