Just adding an ending to a word can change
the meaning of a sentence.

Look at this!

Today we went sailing on the lake.

 

Yesterday we sailed until sunset.

Adding ing to a word tells what you are doing today.
Adding ed to a word tells what you did in the past.

Today it was sunny when Jack was fishing.

Yesterday, it rained while Jack
fished.

Let's look at a few more!

                    Joey is passing the ball to his teammate.

                                                               Yesterday he passed the ball three times.

Last night the rabbit hopped in to the garden.                        

      Today he is hopping in the back yard.

  

                       The bus will stop at my house at 8:00 a.m.  
              Yesterday the bus stopped at my house at 7:45 a.m.
