Many books, especially chapter books and non-fiction books, have a special page at the beginning of the book.  It is called the Table of Contents and it is usually found right after the title page.

The table of contents shows two important things:

1.  What the title of the chapter is

2. What page the chapter starts on

Look at the Table of Contents page above. The list on the left shows the titles of the chapters. The first chapter is called Kind of Trees.   The list on the right shows what page each chapter starts on. The first chapter starts on page 3. The second chapter is called Tree Parts and starts on page 5.
