The setting is when the story takes place.

Here are some examples when a story may take place.

Read the poem below.  As you are reading, try to figure out when the poem is taking place.

This poem takes place at nighttime.  The author gives the reader clues to tell when the poem is taking place.

Use picture cues.

Read the words in the title.

The word, star, appears in the title.  Stars usually appear in the nighttime.

Look at the words in the poem.

The word jammies appears in the poem.  You already know that jammies are worn at night.
