What is the purpose of an advertisement?

The "ad" is trying to persuade you to buy something!

How do advertisements work?

TESTIMONIAL

Tiger Woods says, "I never play golf without my NIKE golf clubs!"

Some advertisements use a famous person to convince you to buy a product.

Of course you want to use the same golf clubs that Tiger Woods uses, because then you'll play golf just like Tiger!

          This is called "TESTIMONIAL".

BANDWAGON

Everyone wants
 softer, fuller hair...

Use Pearl Shampoo.

You want to use this shampoo because you think everyone else uses it.

                      This is called "BANDWAGON".

TRANSFER

Barbie makes brushing fun!

All girls love BARBIE!!  So naming a toothpaste after her will make that product more appealing to little girls!!

Using a familiar character or name is called "TRANSFER".

Remember...

Advertisements combine pictures and convincing text (words) to persuade you to buy a product.

Click on the "ad" for practice.
