At the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims got together
for a big feast. They were thankful for all that they
had after coming to America. They were happy to be in
the new world. They were happy for their new lives in
their new home. The Pilgrims invited the Indians to
join them.

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in the United
States on the fourth Thursday in November. Congress
established that date in 1941. The history of
celebrating Thanksgiving as a national day to give
thanks dates back to the earliest days of our country.
George Washington created the first Thanksgiving Day
in this country on October 3, 1789.
Thanksgiving is often traced back to the
Plymouth
Colony, where the Pilgrims gathered to give thanks in
1621. At that time it was a harvest festival following
their first successful harvest.
