When you write, your AUDIENCE is the person or persons who will be reading your writing.

Before you start to write, you need to identify your AUDIENCE.

Read the following paragraphs.  See if you can identify the audience.

   

            The bear was on his way to town.  He wanted to impress people with his new clothes.  He was dressed in his finest coat and vest.  He was wearing his best derby hat and his shiniest shoes.

Who is the audience?

          A dip in interest rate hit Wall Street Wednesday, sparking a burst of buying and selling stocks moderately higher.  Tech shares, however, declined on disappointing earnings.

            There were many reasons that led to the American Revolution.  First, the colonists did not believe in "taxation without representation".  The colonists thought they should be represented in Parliament.

             One day a thirsty crow was wandering through the hot, sandy, desert.  His throat was dry, and his tongue began to swell from the heat and lack of water.  "I am so thirsty," thought the crow.  "Perhaps I will perish in this desert."

Who is the audience?

            Run your hands through your curls to separate them and get rid of any roller or curling-iron marks.  If you end up with too much curl, you can soften the effect by brushing your hair with a flat paddle brush.
