  Read each sentence with a contraction. 
Identify the 2 words that formed the contraction.

I'll jump rope today.

  

 

She's feeding the cat.

  

They've gone for a walk.

  

She wouldn't fly a kite on a windy day.

  

Read each sentence with a compound word. 
Identify the 2 words that were joined to form the compound word.

We had pancakes for breakfast.

  

Sally skated on the sidewalk.

  

Mae used the paintbrush.

  

When the lights went out we used a flashlight.

  

 

Remember:

   Reading new words will be easier if you understand how   
   contractions and compound words are formed.
