When you finish writing a first draft, it is time to  edit  or  proofread  your writing.

         One of the things you should look for is a  sentence fragment.

What is a sentence fragment?

It's an incomplete sentence that is missing either the subject * or predicate *.

         * subject - the part of the sentence that tells who or what   
                            the  sentence is about

         * predicate - the part of the sentence that tells what the
                             subject is or does

 

         These are examples of sentence fragments.
( These examples have no predicate. )   

                  * The animals in the zoo.

                  * The students in my 4th grade class.

                  * My brother and sister.

     ( These examples have no subject. )

                     * Played in the sun all afternoon.

                     * Worked on a test.

                     * Wore a costume on Halloween.

Let's combine the fragments and make complete sentences.

* The animals in the zoo played in the sun all afternoon.

* The students in my 4th grade class worked on a test.

* My brother and sister wore a costume on Halloween.

Always remember to EDIT your writing and fix  sentence fragments.
