The
Iroquois of the Eastern Woodlands used
nature and the natural resources around them to meet
their needs.
The Iroquois used wood and bark from trees
to build
longhouses and canoes. The longhouses provided shelter for
many families. The canoes provided the Iroquois with
transportation along the lakes and waterways.
Iroquois Indians used animals for many of their needs. Deer
hides were made into clothing. Clothing was decorated with quills
from porcupines. Animal furs were used as blankets. Meat from
these animals provided the Iroquois with food.
The Iroquois made tools from stone and shells.
Stone
points
were used for spears, arrows and knives. Shells could be used to
make fish hooks, spoons, and scrapers.
As you can see, the Iroquois of the Eastern
Woodlands
used
nature and the natural resources around them to meet their
needs.
