When you are writing a story you must ask yourself...

Should I tell my story in the

first-person point of view?

OR

Should I tell my story in the

third-person point of view?

Once you've made your decision...

...it's important to make sure the point of view
stays the same throughout the story.

Let's review Point of View.

First-person Point of View

A character in the story is
     the narrator.  This
     character is telling the
     story.  The narrator uses
     the pronouns
I, me and we.

     In first-person point of
     view, readers learn about
     events as the narrator
     learns about them.

Third-person Point of View

The story is being told by
     an outside observer -
someone who is not in the
     story.  The author uses the
     pronouns
he, she, and they.

     In third-person point of
     view, the author can tell
     about the thoughts, actions,
     and feelings of the other
     characters.

Now, when you write your story it's important to keep the point of view the same throughout the story.

Here's an example of a story written in the
       first-person
point of view:

I had a great time when I went to the zoo
  with
my class.  My favorite part was the monkey
  house.
I saw chimpanzees and orangutans.  I
even some some baby apes.  After seeing
  everything at the zoo
we
got to go to McDonald's
  for lunch.

Here's an example of a story written in the third-person point of view:

Timmy wanted to earn some money to buy a bike.  He decided that he could earn money by
mowing lawns for
his neighbors.  He went to Mr.
O'Brien's house first.  Mr. O'Brien  told
him he was hired!  Timmy started the next day.  By the end of the summer he had enough for his
new bike.

Once you've decided upon your point of view, make sure it remains the same throughout your story.
