As an author, you can express your personal point of view.
You can then support your
point of view with evidence.

Liz wrote an essay about school lunches.

I believe the school cafeteria should serve pizza every day
  for lunch.
All kids like pizza and more kids would buy the school lunch.
Kids would enjoy lunch more if they were eating something they really
enjoyed. Also, eating pizza would make everyone happy. When
everyone is happy, the behavior in the cafeteria would be improved.
A study by the school's food service shows that when pizza is
offered as a selection at lunch, 70% of students order the school
  lunch.

For this reason, I believe the school cafeteria should serve pizza
  every day.

In this essay, Liz used evidence (70 % of students) to support her point of view.

Abby wrote an essay on recycling.

Everyone should recycle to save natural resources.
Recycling take take place both at school and at home. At school,
used paper can be recycled. Since so much paper is used each day at
school, recycling will help to save resources.
At home, plastic and glass containers can also be recycled in
addition to paper. This recycling will also save resources, since
recycling will reduce the amount of plastic manufactured.
A study conducted by the EPA found that manufacturing
recycled paper used 15% less energy than manufacturing new paper.
This reduced the resources consumed by new paper manufacturing.
This is why everyone should recycle to save resources.

In this essay, Abby used evidence (15 % less energy) to support her point of view.
