Comparing sets and counting may be observed at a housekeeping center, the toy shelf or during a tubbing activity. When children are asked to compare sets and count they will want to follow the steps listed.

1.  Look at the boxes below.  Find something the same in both boxes.

                                  

  Both boxes have blue beads.  Count the blue beads in each box.

 2.  Compare the number of blue beads in the first box with the number of blue beads in the second box.

2 is smaller than 3.

 

Let's try it again.

1.  Look at the boxes.  Find the objects that are the same in both boxes.

  

     

2.  Count the chocolate cakes in each box.

3.  Compare the number of chocolate cakes in the first box to the number of chocolate cakes in the second box.

2 is bigger than 1.

    Remember-

                          

1- Find something the same in both boxes.

2- Count the objects that are the same in each box.

3- Compare the number in the first box to the number in the second box.
