Old Mother Hubbard

In advance of sharing the rhyme have available either a construction paper cupboard with a number (at least 3) shelves or a housekeeping cupboard and pictures or household items.  After reading the rhyme and repeating it with the children engage the children in placing the pictures in the appropriate places on the construction paper cupboard or the household objects in the housekeeping cupboard in the appropriate places.  The children will know where to place the objects through your oral directions.  For example: "Put the bowl on the middle shelf."  "Place the cup on the top shelf."  "Put the milk bottle on the bottom shelf."  also use position words such as left, right, inside, outside, next to, under etc..
