Read aloud and discuss Little Mouse's Big Valentine. Share how Little Mouse ends up making many smaller hearts from his original valentine. Ask the children to guess how many pre cut pink hearts they would each need to cover her/his large red valentine. Give each child a post it note on which s/he will write her/his estimate of how many hearts s/he will need. Have each child cover her/his large red valentine with as many pink cut out hearts as s/he thinks fit. Now have the children count how many pink hearts fit on the large red valentine. They should write this number on the post it note and then compare her/his estimate with the number actually used to cover the large red valentine. Challenge the children to share whose estimate was closest.
