..., 98, 99, 100!  Ready or Not, Here I Come!  By Teddy Slater

Read the story aloud to the children.  Discuss why Emma didn't want Maggie to play hide-and-seek.  Emma did not think Maggie could count to 100.   Talk about the ways the children can count to 100.  Who can count to 100 by 1's, by 2's, by 5's, by 10's.  Talk about which way is easiest, fastest, most difficult.  Create awards for children showing how many different ways they can count to 100.

The Icky Bug Counting Book by Jerry Pallotta

Read the book aloud to the children.  As you read the book have the children notice the number name and the numeral for each page of icky bugs.  Reread the book aloud this time and make a tally mark for each icky bug seen.  Show the children how to read the tallies if they do not already know how to do so.  Write the corresponding numeral and number name for the total number of icky bugs in this book.

The Butterfly Counting Book by Jerry Pallotta

The 100th Day of School by Angela Shelf Medearis

Ask the children to share how we knew it was the 100th day of school.  Chart the responses. Share that you will read the book aloud and ask children to find ways that what we did to know it was the 100th day of school was alike or different from what the children in the book did for the 100th day.  After reading make a t chart sharing their observations.  Suggest the children choose a couple of ideas from the book that they may not have done in class.  Encourage active participation in the chosen activities by all students.

Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten by Joseph Slate

A few days before the 100th day of school read this book aloud.  Have the children share what their favorite collections of 100 were.  Chart their responses.  Ask children to share ideas for other collections of 100.  Send a note home asking parents to help their child assemble a collection of 100 objects.  Ask the parents to assist in the counting of 100 objects only as needed by their child.  When children bring their 100s collections to school have each child share his/her collection.  Have him/her share how they counted to 100 (by 1's or possibly 10 groups of 10).  Place the collections on display.

Bears at the Beach by Niki Yektai

Read the book aloud to the children.  As you read have the children say each number aloud.  Ask the children to count the objects in each picture to check the number.  Notice how the children count the objects. Do they count by 1's, 5's or 10's?  Put the book, 10's frames and counters in a center.  Encourage children to match a counter to the objects on the page and then to transfer the counters to the 10's frames.
