Read the book to the children. After reading the book ask the children if they think the king's idea for measuring his bed is a good one or a bad one. Ask why they think as they do. As a follow up ask children to use the King's idea to build an imaginary bed for a class member. Have a volunteer lie on the floor as the class take turns walking around the volunteer to measure. Talk with the children about the results of their walking measure and why there may be differences.
