Read the story aloud to the children. Discuss the story. ask the children to help act out the story. Have 7 rabbit ear headbands each programmed with a numeral from 1 to 7 ready. Give a headband to each of 7 volunteers. Have the 7 stand in a line in the correct numerical order. Ask the rest of the class to look at the rabbits in the line. Then ask the audience to close their eyes. Silently ask one of the 7 rabbits to turn away from the audience. Ask the audience to look and tell which number bunny is turned away from them. Have that bunny turn to the audience so they can se if their answer was correct. Have one of the audience take the place of that bunny. To start play again have the audience again hide their eyes while another bunny is selected to turn from the audience. Continue playing as before until each student has had a chance to be a bunny.
Read aloud the story. Discuss how the letters were read up the tree in abc order. Tell the children that the tree could also have been climbed in number order. Show the children the number tree you have prepared. Create raised numeral cards for children to use. To do this activity a child traces each of the numerals with his finger along the raised glue line. Next he "climbs" the numerals in order up the coconut tree. Ask the children to think of new ways that the numerals may climb up the tree (backwards, by 10s).
Before reading the book ask students to share times when they may have helped parents do errands. Read, then reread the story. As you reread stop and ask questions about the places Minho and his mother visited. Ask before and after type questions such as "Did Minho and his mother visit the ice cream store before or after they visited the beauty shop?"
