Super Lid Collection - Lids, lids, and more lids!  Introduce your students to a wide variety of math skills with lids of all sorts.  Enlist parents' help in collecting a large supply of lids with a variety of attributes. For example, collect lids that are plastic, metal, smooth, rough, large, and small, and ones that have letters, numbers, pouring spouts, or squirt caps.  Discuss the various attributes of the lids with the students.  Then have youngsters sort the lids several different ways. After each sort, have youngsters name the attribute for which each set of lids was grouped.  Later, as skills progress, have some students sort lids by unspecified attributes, then have others guess the attribute used for sorting.  Keep the lid collection on hand all year for patterning, ordering by size, and measuring volume, or as tracers for art projects.  (Constance Naylor-OH)
