When you use a number line to add you will always start at a number and move to the right.

2 + 1 =

2  3  4  5 

Start at the 2 and move to the right 1.    The answer is 3.
5 + 3 = 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  10 Start at the 5, and move to the right 3.  The answer is 8
7 + 2 = 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  10 Start at the 7, and move to the right 2.  The answer is 9.
4 + 6 = 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8 10 Start at the 4, and move to the right 6.  The answer is 10.
