When adding numbers
ALWAYS
line up place value columns.
tens ones

43 + 36=

tens	ones
4	3
3	6

Then add each column
starting with the
ones
then....tens

4 3
+ 3 6
7 9

84 + 13 =

                          8 4  add ones   4 + 3 = 7
                     + 1 3 add tens 8 + 1 = 9
                           9 7

84 + 13 = 97

REMEMBER:

         Add each column
         starting with the
