It's so much fun counting money!  Wait and See!

penny

1¢ or $.01

nickel

5¢ or $.05

dime

10¢ or $.10

quarter

25¢ or $.25

If you can imagine that each coin (except the penny) have a certain number of legs, than you can count money.

no legs

one leg

two legs

five legs

Each leg is worth five cents.  For example, a dime is worth ten cents.  You would count a dime by touching the first leg and say "five" and touch the second leg and say "ten"

When counting money you begin with the coin of greatest value.

For example:

You would need to begin counting with the quarter because it has the highest value of these three coins.

The value of these coins together is thirty-six cents. (36¢ or $.36)

  Try these!
