Counting bills is just like counting pennies, nickels, and dimes.
 

    equals 16¢  

equals $16.00

Each leg represents a value of 5. 
When counting coins, each leg is worth 5 cents.
When counting bills, each leg is worth 5 dollars.
$1 doesn't have any legs because its value is less than 5.

$10.00

Here are some examples.

 

You would count this by saying $5, $10 and $1 more dollar is $11.


 

You would count this by touching each "leg" and saying $5, $10, and $1 more would be $11 and $1 more would be $12.
 
 

You would count this by touching each leg and counting by 5's.  $5. $10, $15, $20, $25
