When something a being described as nearer or farther, we are describing the distance between one object and another.

Look at the picture below. The turtle is nearer to the the snake than to the frog. The frog is farther away from the turtle than the snake.

Look at the picture below.
The orange fish is nearer to the shark than the green fish. The green fish is farther away from the shark than the orange fish.

The alligators are nearer to the man than the frog.. The frog is farther away from the man than the alligators.

The yellow bird is nearer to the red bird than the blue bird. The blue bird is farther away from the yellow bird than the red bird.
