Which list shows the numbers on the tickets in order from the greatest to the least?

  • HINT: Stack the numbers  vertically, making sure the place values are in line (thousands under thousands, comma under comma, hundreds under hundreds etc.). Starting with the largest place value (in this case thousands), compare to see  which has the largest digit.  If they are all the same at that place value, continue going from left to right until there is a difference.

    Which number has the greatest value in the thousands place?

    A 12,294

    B 28,682

    C 34,971

    D 50,816

  • HINT: Stack the numbers  vertically, making sure the place values are in line (ten thousands under ten thousands, thousands under thousands, comma under comma, hundreds under hundreds etc.). In this problem you are only concerned with the thousands place, which I have underlined. Since 8> 2 or 4 or 0,  the answer is B 28,682
