First, read the problem carefully! Then read it again!.

What do you know? 3 out of 10

How would you write this as a fraction? 3/10

How would you write this as a decimal? 0.3

Example Two:

The table shows the results of a survey Miss Carroll took of the students in 4th grade.

Which Kind Of Story Do You Like Best?
Fiction stories
Non-fiction stories

Start by counting the total number of tally marks.
How many students were surveyed? 100

Thirty-five of the students liked non-fiction stories, so 35/100 of the students chose non-fiction stories.

How would you write this as a fraction? 35/100

How would you write this as a decimal? 0.35

Remember:
Writing zeros to the right of the decimal part of a number does not change its value, e.g., 3.5 = 3.50 = 3.500
